IT’S A huge round of milestones in the Smithy’s VFL this weekend, with three history making feats being achieved.

Williamstown will play its 1150th match at Williamstown Cricket Ground when it takes on Carlton on Saturday afternoon, aiming to spring an upset and increase what is an imposing record at its home ground – 740 wins, 390 losses and 19 draws – although a win for the Blues will be their 100th away from home in VFA/VFL footy.

Coburg runs out for its 1800th VFL/VFL match on Sunday against Geelong at Ballarat’s MARS Stadium, with the Lions also taking in a positive record of 935-846-18.

But the biggest celebration will be at Metricon Stadium where Port Melbourne captain Tom O’Sullivan will become just the third presently listed VFL player to reach 150 matches, behind only Essendon’s Ben Jolley (290) and Sandringham’s Sam Dunell (165).

O’Sullivan will share his milestone with teammate Campbell Walker, who is one of five players scheduled to reach the 50-game mark, with Coburg’s Mitch Podhajski, Northern Bullant Billy Murphy, Southport’s Jesse Joyce and Sydney’s Harry Morrison also raising the bat.

Last week, Southport lost at Fankhauser Reserve for the first time since 2019 and Brisbane Lions went down at Moreton Bay for the first time since 2016 in remarkable results on the same day, with Gold Coast’s win over the Lions being the first time they had beaten big brother since 2017, while Richmond’s 55-point win over Williamstown was its first against the Seagulls at Punt Rd since 1907 and broke a margin record that had stood for 124 years.

In the Frosty Miller Medal, Box Hill Hawk Fergus Greene made it 11 goals in two games and has hauled in a seven-goal deficit to Gold Coast’s Chris Burgess, who was held to a single major against the Lions.
