Carlton has named a host of AFL and former AFL-listed talent as it aims to extend Sydney’s winless Smithy’s VFL season at the SCG on Friday.
Pending who ends up as the Blues’ substitute against the Swans in the AFL later that night, Carlton will have access to most of Ed Curnow, Jack Silvagni, Alex Cincotta and Lewis Young from last week’s AFL squad, plus Lochie O’Brien and Liam McMahon.
Echuca youngster Aiden Mills has also earned a call-up for his second game.
Tom De Koning and Brodie Kemp have been recalled to the Blues’ AFL team and Lachie Cowan is injured, while Northern Knights key forward Nate Caddy, who kicked two goals in an impressive debut against Williamstown last week, will return to the Coates Talent League.
The Swans, who have lost nine matches in a row, including seven this season, could also be boosted, with Will Gould and Dylan Stephens left out of the AFL line-up in favour of Lewis Melican and Sam Wicks, but captain Will Collis has joined the bulging injury list with a groin problem that will cost him one to two matches on the sidelines.
Balwyn goalsneak Charlie Haley, young key defender Hamish Morrison and Sydney Academy member Christian Webster have been recalled, while Sydney University’s Oscar Davis, who graduated from the Academy in 2021 and was a Sydney AFL Rising Star nominee last year, will make his debut.
All matches in the 2023 Smithy’s VFL and rebel VFLW seasons will be live streamed free via the AFL website and AFL Live Official App.
Smithy’s VFL broadcast partner, the Seven Network, will show one weekly game live and free on the Seven Network in Victoria and on 7Plus nationally. This week’s game will be Geelong Cats vs Port Melbourne.
Casey Radio 97.7FM will be broadcasting the Werribee vs Casey Demons clash and 3WBC 94.1FM will take Essendon vs Box Hill Hawks.
