CARLTON forward Mitch McGovern will undergo a fitness test later this week to determine whether he will play in the club's crucial clash with Gold Coast on Sunday.

The Blues have a number of key players who remain touch-and-go for the important road trip, with Matthew Kreuzer and Charlie Curnow also an outside chance to feature.

McGovern did next to nothing at Blues training on Tuesday as he recovers from hamstring tightness that saw him withdrawn midway through Saturday's defeat to Sydney.

He underwent scans earlier this week, which determined no signs of damage to his hamstring, though the Blues are likely to take a cautious approach with his recovery.

Kreuzer took part in most drills on Tuesday, having completed a VFL intraclub match on Saturday, as he recovers from minor knee surgery undertaken in January.

The Carlton ruckman has missed the first three matches of the campaign, with the Blues considering ushering him back into footy through the VFL this weekend.

The Blues also expect fellow ruckman Andrew Phillips to return from a corked quad this week, though he hardly trained throughout Tuesday's light session.

Curnow, training with heavy strapping on his bruised right knee, is also an outside chance to play this weekend after only taking part in light drills on Tuesday.

However, it's more likely the exciting forward returns for the club's round five clash with the Western Bulldogs.

In more positive news on the injury front at Ikon Park, a number of the club's longer-term prospects are set to return imminently, with Tom Williamson, Darcy Lang and Harrison Macreadie all on the verge of making their long-awaited comebacks.

Lang played in a VFL intraclub game on Saturday as he returns from a foot injury that has plagued his summer, while Williamson and Macreadie are only one more week away from finally completing their returns from back problems.

Key forward Harry McKay worked tirelessly on his set-shot goal kicking throughout Tuesday's session, completing a number of routines under the watchful eye of Sav Rocca.

McKay leads the League for contested marks through three rounds of the season, claiming another six against Sydney, though was wasteful in front of goal and finished with 1.3.
